New to Colin Powell! Looking for a dedicated parent volunteer who is excited about math to lead this program.
It is called Mathcounts and we will initially start the Club program. If desired, we can work toward the competition program.

New to Colin Powell! Looking for a parent volunteer to lead this fun and exciting club where kids of all ages are invited to build the structure/item of the week using Lego bricks. Curriculum provided to parent coordinator.

National Spelling Bee

Chess Club
|
A popular club for 2nd-6th grade chess enthusiasts. An instructor from the U.S. Chess Center in D.C. will be available to help teach the children how to play the game.

Cultural Arts
|
Looking for parent coordinator to take on this rewarding program.
The PTA pays for performing artists and curriculum-based cultural assemblies for the students 2-3 times a year. This is also coordinated thru the teachers and administration. Some previous performances: author visits, Center for Ballet Arts, music and dances from various countries, historical themes. Please contact the PTA if you would like to sponsor or make a suggestions for future performances.

| Odyssey of the Mind |
An educational program that provides creative problem solving opportunities for students. Students bring their solutions to competitions to the local, state and world level.

| Lego League |
New to Colin Powell by popular demand! Looking for parent coaches (no engineering skills needed) and a parent Robotics Coordinator. Open to 5th and 6th graders. Team to be formed late winder (watch for flyers to come home in the Fall)
In addition, after-school robotics clsses will be offered this Fall and Winter through a partnership with Fairfax Collegiate.
For more info about the robotics classes, please watch for info to come home in your child's Tuesday folder, inviting you to an event to learn more about them and register for them.
